By day, Gao Yifeng is a white-collar worker, but on weekends, he transforms into Funkie, a DJ who brings energy and passion to the dance floor. For Gao, these two roles go hand in hand. "DJ-ing is all about serving others," he says. "Each DJ puts their own twist on the music, creating a unique experience for the audiences."

Before becoming a DJ, Gao worked in the music media industry, listening to tens of thousands of albums. "I spent years being immersed in music, and eventually thought, 'Why not DJ?'" In 2020, he launched a podcast exploring Cantonese pop music and culture. "I dive into music, food, transportation, and record stores – it's a mix of culture and sound."
Funkie's DJ sets are a mix of Cantonese pop and beyond, often featuring 80s and 90s hits. "I've hosted parties where millennials and Gen Z come together, and I play Alan Tam. One guy told me his dad loves the song and plays it at home," Funkie recalls.

For Funkie, music isn't just about the beats – it's about the stories behind them. Whether on his podcast or live performances, his goal is to connect with others and share his love for music. "It's my outlet, a way to tell stories and create a connection with the audience."
Although his office job and DJ life may seem worlds apart, Funkie finds that his passion for music brings a spark to everything he does.
