China sees travel boom during May Day holiday

China's railway network handled a record of nearly 23.12 million passenger trips on May 1, the first day of the May Day holiday. The figure represents a year-on-year increase of 11.7 percent. Thursday also witnessed heavy road traffic, with an estimated 314 million cross-regional road trips nationwide, up 7.8 percent year on year.
