China swept all five golds on the first day of the World Cup Super Final at Beijing's National Aquatics Center in front of a capacity crowd on Friday.
In the women's 10-meter synchronized platform, Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi made their first appearance together since last summer's Paris Olympics. The duo built a 10-point lead after the first two rounds. Although they made a few errors on their technical routine midway through, the Olympic champions still earned 8.5 points. On their last dive, they picked up a high score of 85.44 points to defend their title with a total of 350.88 points.
Aleksandra Kedrina and Anna Konanykhina finished second, with Maisie Bond and Lois Toulson coming in third.
In the men's 10-meter synchronized platform, the new Chinese pairing of Cheng Zilong and Zhu Zifeng delighted the home crowd at the "Water Cube" by leading from the start to win the title with 460.92 points, which was 34.23 points better than runners-up Nikita Shleikher and Ruslan Ternovoi. Mark Hrytsenko and Oleksli Sereda finished in third place.
In the women's 3-meter synchronized springboard, Olympic champions Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani faced no real threat in the final and finished with 323.13 points, well ahead of Maddison Keeney and Alysha Koloi. Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen ended up third.
Another new Chinese pairing, Zheng Jiuyuan and Hu Yukang, maintained their lead throughout all six dives in the men's 3-meter synchronized springboard and earned a winning total of 448.65 points. Anthony Harding and Jack Laugher took silver, with Lou Noel Guy Massenberg and Moritz Wesemann coming third for bronze.
In the mixed team final, Chen Yiwen, Wang Zongyuan, Chen Yuxi, and Cheng Zilong clinched the last gold of the day with a score of 507.20 points. Ukraine finished second, with Mexico rounding out the podium in third.
