During the recent May Day holiday, tourist hotspots across Shanxi Province saw a surge in visitors. According to the provincial culture and tourism department, more than 22 million trips were made in Shanxi from May 1 to 5, an increase of over 20 percent compared to last year. Total tourism revenue exceeded 16 billion yuan (around $2.2 billion), up nearly 30 percent year-on-year. Located in northern China, Shanxi is rich in historical and cultural resources and natural landscapes.
