Uphold a correct historical perspective on WWII

02:42

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow on May 7 for his 11th visit to Russia and to attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War. In a signed article published in the Russian Gazette on Wednesday, President Xi emphasized that "we must uphold a correct historical perspective on WWII."

Both China and the Soviet Union made pivotal contributions to the victory in the global fight against fascism. In a panel discussion with CGTN's Wang Guan, international relations and security analyst Mark Sleboda pointed out that the West is actively rewriting history into a Western geopolitical interpretation. The joint attendance of the Russian and Chinese presidents at the 80th-anniversary commemorations carries profound significance, and as Sleboda emphasizes, "The cost must not be forgotten because that could lead to a repetition."
