India's government said Thursday that 13 civilians were killed in "ceasefire violations" by Pakistani forces along the de facto border, following a surge in violence sparked by Indian strikes.
According to India's foreign ministry, all civilian casualties occurred in the town of Poonch, where 59 others were also injured, most of them local residents.
The Indian Army confirmed that one soldier was killed in Poonch on Wednesday during shelling by Pakistan's forces, bringing the total death toll on the Indian side to 14.
