The Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and the Bishops' Conference of Catholic Church in China on Friday congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his election as the new pope.
American-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected the new pope on the second day of voting in the cardinals' conclave held in Vatican City. The name he chose as the new pope was Leo XIV.
The College of Cardinals, composed of 133 cardinals, began the secret voting process on May 7. The previous pope, Francis, passed away due to illness on April 21.
