Qi Ying and Zhang Zixi of China made history on Sunday at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus, by winning their country's first mixed team trap gold medal at the tournament.
Olympic silver medalist Qi missed out the men's trap final, but joined forces with 19-year-old Zhang for the mixed team event. They qualified second behind Poland's Tomasz Pasierbski and Sandra Bernal, and reached the decider after prevailing in a shootoff against Türkiye's Tolga Tuncer and Rumeysa Pelin Kaya.
The final was all square until a perfect round from Pasierbski gave Poland a one-shot lead. However world champion Qi responded with a perfect fourth round of his own to move the Chinese side in front 40-34. Qi and Zhang then held on to clinch the title by a score of 42-39, bringing home the championship of this event from the World Cup.
