China says U.S. tariffs over fentanyl undermine anti-drug cooperation

The U.S. imposition of tariffs over fentanyl on China has severely undermined bilateral anti-drug dialogue and cooperation, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a related query.

Lin said China has repeatedly stated that fentanyl is a problem for the United States, not China, and the responsibility lies with the United States itself.

The U.S. side, ignoring China's goodwill, has imposed unreasonable tariffs over fentanyl, which has undermined bilateral anti-drug dialogue and cooperation, and damaged China's interests, Lin added.

He noted that the U.S. should stop smearing and shifting blame, and if it truly wants to cooperate with China, it should engage in dialogue based on equality, respect and mutual benefit.
