Li Dayin of China won the men's 89-kilogram snatch gold medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Quzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Monday.
Li competed alongside 19-year-old teammate Pan Yunhua who lifted an impressive 163 kilograms in snatch to finish fifth. Li, the Asian record holder, won gold by successfully lifting 170 kilograms and then 176 kilograms.
Ro Kwang Ryol of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) earned silver in snatch after lifting 168 kilograms. To conserve energy for the clean & jerk, Li opted not to attempt his final lift.
Li faced challenges due to a severe back injury, managing a lift of only 203 kilograms to claim bronze in the clean & jerk and a silver overall with 379 kilograms. Ro dominated with a lift of 212 kilograms, taking home golds for both the clean & jerk and overall with 380 kilograms.
Young Pan, resilient despite the competition, lifted 209 kilograms in the clean & jerk, achieving a total score of 372 kilograms, which not only earned him silver in the clean & jerk and bronze overall, but also set a new Asian junior record.
In the men's 81kg division, China's Luo Chongyang started with an impressive opening snatch lift of 160 kilograms, the highest of the competition. Despite losing grip on the bar during his first attempt, Luo rebounded with a successful lift of 162 kilograms on his second attempt, clinching the snatch gold by just one kilogram over Indonesia's Rizki Juniansyah. South Korea's Son Hyeon-ho came in third.
As the competition shifted to clean & jerk, Juniansyah struggled to surpass 197 kilograms, securing a bronze and a silver overall. Son made his mark by becoming the first to lift 200 kilograms in the clean & jerk, earning gold. Luo followed with his own 200-kilogram lift, claiming silver in the clean & jerk. However, with a total of 362 kilograms, Luo secured the overall gold.
