The Shaolin Pagoda Forest is the final resting place of eminent monks from bygone dynasties. It is also a key component of the "Center of Heaven and Earth" World Cultural Heritage Site in Dengfeng City, Henan Province. With 248 Buddhist pagodas dating back as far as to the Tang Dynasty over 1,400 years ago, the forest not only houses the largest pagoda complex of its kind in China, but also the most complete chronologically. It represents the pinnacle of ancient brick-and-stone architecture, sculpture, calligraphy and painting, for which it has earned the title of "Museum of Ancient Pagoda Art."
