Douglas Jardine Flint, chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen, said that U.S. tariffs had proven damaging to all parties, including the United States itself. Commenting on the recent China-U.S. agreement to reduce and pause tariffs, the veteran financier noted that while the U.S. has taken time to reflect, China has done what it needed to do. He also expressed hope that future generations, including his own children and grandchildren, would benefit from a more equitable global competitive landscape. He made the remarks on the sidelines of the Advisory Council meetings of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, held in Ningbo City, east China.
