Walmart prices to soar with U.S. consumers set to bear tariff costs

00:56

Walmart CFO John David Rainey recently stated in U.S. media that due to high tariffs, the company can no longer absorb the financial pressure and will inevitably pass the costs on to consumers. J.D. Durkin of CBS News noted that this signals impending challenges for American consumers and the retail industry in the coming weeks and months. As the largest employer in the U.S. outside the federal government, Walmart employs over 2 million people, with 90 percent of Americans living within 10 miles of a Walmart store.

Durkin added that Walmart’s announcement of significant price hikes has brought relief to many retailers, who had been waiting for Walmart to be the first to publicly address the issue. More critically, Walmart has provided a clear timeline, planning to implement the changes as early as this month. This sends an unmistakable signal: the cost of new U.S. tariffs will ultimately fall on consumers.
