Qin and Yu impress at China's National Swimming Championships

Qin Haiyang delivered a commanding performance to clinch gold for Shanghai in the men's 100-meter breaststroke at China's National Swimming Championships in Shenzhen on Sunday.

The race started with Qin establishing a narrow lead at the halfway mark, with Jiangsu's Dong Zhihao in dogged pursuit. Ultimately, Qin touched the wall first in a season-best 58.61 seconds, underscoring his dominance in the discipline.

In the women's 100-meter butterfly, Zhejiang's Yu Yiting took flight, seizing the lead at the 50-meter turn and maintaining her advantage to finish in 57.30 seconds. Not far behind was Jiangsu's Zhang Yufei, an Olympic silver medalist from the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Games in 2021 and bronze medalist at Paris 2024, who was edged out by a mere 0.09 seconds to settle for silver.

Yu, barely pausing for breath, returned just over an hour later to claim another title in the women's 200-meter individual medley, with the 19-year-old clocking a commendable time of 2:08.67 to top the podium.

Guangdong's Chen Juner also made his mark, powering to gold in the men's 50-meter butterfly in 23.41 seconds.
