Layers of terraced fields cascade down the hillsides of the Taihang Mountains in Pingding County, Shanxi Province, forming a breathtaking agricultural tapestry in the early summer light. Known for its steep slopes and scarce flat land, the Taihang region has long challenged traditional farming. Local residents have ingeniously transformed the rugged terrain by carving terraces into the mountainsides. Using native stone, they build sturdy ridges to create a distinctive system of dryland, stone-walled terraces.
