Novak Djokovic won his first clay-court match of the season after beating Marton Fucsovics in straight sets on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of ATP Geneva Open. Hungary's Fucsovics had never beaten Djokovic in their previous five encounters, and didn't get off to the best start in his sixth meeting with the Serbian.

Djokovic captured gold last July at the Paris Summer Olympics on clay, but had struggled in his first two matches on the surface this year, falling to Alejandro Tabilo in Monte-Carlo and Matteo Arnaldi in Madrid. The 37-year-old recaptured some of his best form in Switzerland to take the first set 6-2.

The Serbian was making his second appearance in Geneva after reaching the semifinals 12 months ago. The World No. 6 came in with a 12-7 record for the season, highlighted by his run to the final in Miami and semifinal showing at the Australian Open. He stayed in control in the second set with a smart drop shot.

Djokovic is aiming to become just the third man after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer to capture 100 Tour-level titles, having clinched his 99th crown at the Paris Games. The former World No. 1 wrapped up the sweep by closing out the second set 6-3 with an impressive backhand winner.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who turns 38 on Thursday, will continue his pursuit of history with a rematch from Madrid against Arnaldi in the last 16 in Switzerland.
