China will ultimately and is bound to realize reunification, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning at a regular press briefing on Thursday, reiterating China's firm position on the Taiwan question in response to recent remarks made by a Taiwan political figure advocating separatist rhetoric.
Taiwan has never been a country, and such claims only expose someone's arrogance and ignorance, representing blatant provocation for "Taiwan independence," she said.
Mao reiterated that there is only one China, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government that represents China, which are all facts recognized by the international community.
"The future of Taiwan can only be decided by the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, including our Taiwan compatriots, and China will and must be reunified eventually, which is a historical trend that no force can stop," Mao affirmed.
