Tonga – The island of friendship

Nestled in the western South Pacific, the Kingdom of Tonga is affectionately known as the "Island of Friendship." Since establishing diplomatic ties with China in 1998, the friendship between the Chinese and Tongan peoples has grown steadily, becoming a shining example of mutual respect and cooperation between China and Pacific Island nations.

Tonga lies just west of the International Date Line, making it one of the first countries to welcome each new day. It consists of 173 islands, 36 of which are inhabited, and is divided into major island groups: Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai, as well as smaller islands like 'Eua and the Niuas. The capital city is Nuku'alofa.

With its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and distinctive volcanic landscapes, Tonga is a paradise for nature lovers. It is internationally renowned as a prime destination for whale watching and diving.
