China's National Swimming Championships wrapped up in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, after the final day of competition on Saturday.
Wang Shun and Zhang Zhanshuo engaged in a close battle in the men's 400-meter individual medley final. The two leaders left the rest of the pack behind in the butterfly leg, before Wang built a two-second advantage in the backstroke section. Zhang tried to catch up as the race switched to the breaststroke, but Wang outlasted him in the end by clocking a winning time of 4:10.64, which broke an 11-year-old National Championships record in the event.
Zhang finished second in 4:11.86, good enough to qualify for this summer's World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. He had won the men's 1500-meter freestyle just 15 minutes before the 400-meter individual medley final.
Two youngsters, 12-year-old Yu Zidi and 14-year-old Chang Mohan, faced off for the women's 400-meter individual medley title. Yu topped the podium in 4:35.53, while Chang touched the wall second in 4:37.33.
Wu Qingwen collected the women's 50-meter freestyle title after dominating the final in 24.18 seconds.
Pan Zhanle pocketed his ninth gold medal at the National Championships after teaming up with Xu Jiayu, Dong Yifan, and Shen Jiahao to win the men's 4×100-meter medley relay in 3:41.35.
