Chinese Premier Li Qiang holds talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Indonesia, May 25, 2025. /Xinhua
Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Sunday that China stands ready to join Indonesia in addressing risks and challenges and to strengthen cooperation across the "five pillars" – politics, economy, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, maritime affairs and security.
Li made the remarks during talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, as part of his official visit to Indonesia.
Calling China and Indonesia "good neighbors and good partners," Li said over the past 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two sides have supported and stood by each other, and the traditional friendship has grown stronger over time.
Li said China is ready to work with Indonesia to promote political mutual trust and elevate strategic coordination between the two countries to a higher level.
China is willing to work with Indonesia to enhance alignment of development strategies, and deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, he said.
Li urged deeper cooperation between China and Indonesia in key areas including finance, new energy, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, aerospace, and maritime development.
In the face of growing global risks and challenges, he emphasized that solidarity and cooperation remain the most effective path forward.
China stands ready to work with Indonesia and other developing countries to uphold multilateralism and free trade, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, he said.
For his part, Prabowo expressed Indonesia's commitment to advancing maritime joint development in line with existing consensus with China. He also voiced support for accelerating consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea to help maintain regional peace and stability.
Indonesia, he added, looks forward to strengthening coordination with China on multilateral platforms such as ASEAN and BRICS. He reaffirmed his country's support for multilateralism, opposition to protectionism, and desire to work jointly with China in safeguarding the common interests of developing nations and tackling global challenges.
Following their talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements spanning economic development policy, industrial and supply chains, finance, and other sectors.
