The 2025 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races have kicked off at Nam Van Lake, launching a vibrant three-day celebration of sport and tradition leading up to the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on May 31 this year.

On May 24 and 25, the event featured dragon boat races across multiple divisions, with 139 teams from Macao taking part. The competition reaches its peak on May 31 when 500-meter races will be held. Teams from China, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Egypt will see a thrilling contest for championship honors.

Beyond the races, a lively carnival atmosphere fills the lakeside. Cultural and performing arts groups stage parades and live performances, while visitors enjoy interactive zones including themed photo spots, booths for local cultural and creative products, specialty snacks, and fun games. Street performances such as magic shows, balloon twisting, music, and dance further add to the festive energy.

With strong participation from youth teams, particularly local university crews, the event not only showcases athletic excellence but also highlights Macao's commitment to preserving traditional Chinese culture through community engagement and international exchange.
