The ecosystem along the Yellow River, which flows through southern Gansu Province, has greatly improved. Each spring, nearly 10,000 migratory birds, including bar-headed geese and ruddy shelducks, nest on a sandbar near Maqu County. Locals call this spot "duck egg island." As the chicks hatch, the area transforms into a lively bird nursery.
