Recently, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that deterring China's so-called "invasion of Taiwan" should start with "Taiwan's self-defense capabilities." Earlier, Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, stated there were already plans to deter and prevent the Chinese mainland's so-called "military invasion" of Taiwan, advocating the creation of a "hellscape" in response. Responding to these remarks on Wednesday, a spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council commented that the U.S. actions amount to "harming Taiwan" and "destroying Taiwan," and "seeking to use our Taiwan compatriots as cannon fodder."
