China's groundbreaking asteroid mission with the Tianwen-2 probe is underway. The launch on Thursday was declared a success, but it's just the starting point for the roughly 10-year mission, described as a "Long March." Tianwen-2 will seek to explore and collect samples from the asteroid 2016HO3 and bring them to Earth, followed by the scientific exploration of main-belt comet 311P.
