From academic elites to academic refugees

The Trump administration has continued exerting pressure on foreign students, citing a threat to national security: canceling their visa interviews, censoring their social media records, and "aggressively revoking" visas for Chinese students. Now, the gates to U.S. education are closing ever more tightly. This is not only part of the administration's immigration agenda, but also a broader effort to reshape America's academic culture and educational structure. When education is politicized under the guise of "national security," what was once a rational public sphere descends into an ideological fortress that must be rebuilt.
