As Beijing's art season gets underway in May, 20-year-old artist Chen Yanran opens her first solo exhibition in China at the 798 Art Zone. Titled "Neon Dreamland," the exhibition features illustrations and sculptures that explore Gen Z's self-reflection in a surreal space.
Chen collaborated with Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin to create a collection of limited-edition sculptures. The pieces were brought to Las Vegas and praised by American audiences. But behind this success, Chen told CGTN that she felt trapped when she was younger – just like many others. She expressed her emotions through painting and considers herself lucky to have found resonance on social media.
Yuan Hong, the curator of the exhibition, also shared his observations on how artists have expressed themselves across decades, and how the spread of art has influenced our daily lives over time.
