On May 29, the "Global Mayors Dialogue Shanghai and the 2025 Shanghai International Friendship Cities Cooperation Forum" was held in Shanghai. Mayors and representatives from 26 of Shanghai's international sister cities across 22 countries gathered along the Huangpu River. Centered on the themes of "Green, Low-Carbon, Development, and Innovation," they discussed future-oriented urban exchanges and cooperation.
Haris Doukas, mayor of Athens, Greece, stated that Shanghai and Athens serve as central pillars in East-West exchanges, bearing a vital mission of dialogue and collaboration. Earlier this year, after signing four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Shanghai and Athens formally established sister-city ties. The agreement endorses our commitment to deepen cooperation across a broad range of shared priorities, including tourism, culture, sports, entrepreneurship and innovation, education, urban regeneration, resilience, and sustainability.
