Singaporean Defense Minister Chan Chun Sing said on Sunday that the Taiwan question will have to be determined by the Chinese people.
Speaking at the final session of the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue, Chan stressed the importance of understanding the historical context of the Taiwan question.
"How this issue is going to be resolved, if not managed, will have to be determined by the Chinese people," he said.
Chan warned against "simplistic" explanations of the question as "a conflict between democracy and autocracy," or comparing it with the Ukraine situation. He said hearing such attempts "scares" him.
