The 18th Luodian Dragon Boat Culture Festival kicked off on Friday at Luodian ancient town in Shanghai. The event originated from traditional dragon boat races held hundreds of years ago and has evolved into a grand aquatic show every Dragon Boat Festival. Oarsmen row colorful boats decorated with flags and pavilions in perfect coordination and different formations, providing a visual feast for spectators. In 2008, the dragon boat performance in Luodian was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.
