Eight people were injured on Sunday when a 45-year-old man yelled "Free Palestine" and threw an incendiary device into a crowd in Boulder, Colorado, where a demonstration to remember the Israeli hostages who remain in Gaza was taking place, authorities said.

The Boulder police said in a statement that eight victims, aged 52 to 88, have been identified and taken to Denver metro hospitals.

Witnesses reported that the suspect used a makeshift flamethrower and threw an incendiary device into the crowd, said the police.

The suspect has been identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman. He was taken to the hospital to be medically evaluated before being booked in the Boulder County Jail on multiple charges, according to the police.

The FBI is investigating the attack as a "targeted act of terrorism."

Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said he did not believe anyone else was involved.

"We're fairly confident we have the lone suspect in custody," he said.
