European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill expressed strong "regret" over the US decision to raise steel import tariffs from 25 percent to 50 percent, warning that this move would create further uncertainty for the global economy and increase costs for consumers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. The spokesperson added that the EU is ready to impose countermeasures if no mutually acceptable solution is reached.
