US reliance on steel and aluminum imports

CGTN

The US announced on Tuesday that it will increase tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from 25 percent to 50 percent, effective June 4, 2025. As one of the world's largest steel importers and a country that relies on imports for 47 percent of its aluminum supply, the tariff hike will raise costs and exert pressure on critical sectors such as metal manufacturing, automotive, and construction.
