The phone talks between the heads of state of China and the United States have attracted global attention. A survey conducted by CGTN among global netizens shows that 74.7 percent of the respondents believe that the phone talks sent out a positive signal to ease the trade disputes between the two countries and promote the return of China-U.S. relations to the right track.

Lead officials from the two countries held an economic and trade meeting in Geneva in May at the suggestion of the U.S. side, which marked an important step forward in resolving the relevant issues through dialogue and consultation. It was welcomed by people in both countries as well as the international community.

In the survey, 93.3 percent of the respondents said that choosing a path of dialogue and cooperation is the only right choice to resolve the trade disputes between China and the United States. As many as 94 percent of the respondents expressed belief that the two sides need to seek win-win results in the spirit of equality and respect for each other's concerns in resolving trade disputes.

Since the high-level economic and trade talks between China and the United States in Geneva, China has been seriously and earnestly executing the agreement. In this regard, 95.7 percent of the respondents stressed that the U.S. should abide by the consensus reached by both sides on resolving trade disputes and strictly implement the agreements reached at the Geneva talks.

The international community, standing at a crossroads, is still in continuous turmoil. As the world's two largest economies, as well as the largest developed and developing countries, a healthy and stable China-U.S. relationship not only serves the interests of both countries but also benefits the world.

In the survey, 95.5 percent of the respondents expressed belief that for the China-U.S. relationship to develop well, it must be based on mutual respect and equality as well as respecting each other's core interests and major concerns. Around 97 percent of the respondents said that the China-U.S. relationship is not a zero-sum game. Any idea of attempting to transform and contain the other side is unrealistic, and the development of either side should not deprive the other of its legitimate rights.

Besides, 90.6 percent of the respondents expressed hope that China and the United States will continue to maintain communication, reduce misunderstandings and misjudgments, promote the stabilization of China-U.S. relations from the decline, and return to a healthy and stable development track as soon as possible.

This survey was released on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms. Within 12 hours, a total of 5610 respondents participated in the voting and expressed their views.
