China's 2025 national college entrance exam, also known as the gaokao, enters its second day. The exams are widely regarded as a significant national event, since it offers equal access to higher education for millions of students. Wei Jun, assistant professor at the Institute of Education at Tsinghua University, says China's higher education should move from rapid expansion to structural refinement and frontier innovation.
