Expert: Prospects for cooperation expected as China-U.S. officials meet in London

The first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism is expected to boost the prospects for bilateral cooperation, said an expert on Monday.

Wu Zewei, a special researcher at Sushang Bank, said there is still much room for growth in cooperation between China and the U.S., and the two countries can still achieve mutual benefit, win-win results and common prosperity, and create a better life for the people of both countries.

The meeting opened in London on Monday. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attended it with U.S. representatives.

It came after the China-U.S. high-level meeting on economic and trade affairs in Geneva in May.

The meeting in Geneva has set a positive precedent for China-U.S. negotiations, proving that the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries far outweighs the possibilities of divergence and conflict, said Wu.

The researcher said the recent phone call between the two heads of state has further pointed the way for bilateral consultations and injected new momentum into China-U.S. relations.
