Demonstrations have broken out in many parts of the United States. The U.S. president said it would be a "great thing" to arrest California governor. Thousands of soldiers have been stationed in Los Angeles. "Americans are worried that a civil war is about to break out!" exclaimed British newspaper The Mirror.

A survey conducted on CGTN social media platforms shows that 78.3 percent of the respondents agree that the United States, as an immigrant country, is now vigorously promoting anti-immigrant ideology, which runs counter to the historical development process of the United States and may profoundly affect the future development direction of the United States.

As the riots in Los Angeles continue to spread, the "war of words" between the California government and the federal government, as well as between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, has also intensified.

In the survey, 89.6 percent of the respondents agree that the issue of illegal immigration has ignited deep-seated contradictions between local governments such as Los Angeles, governed by the Democratic Party, and the federal government, governed by the Republican Party. Eighty-nine percent of the respondents agree that the extreme tug-of-war between the two parties over immigration policies is essentially a concentrated manifestation of political polarization in the United States and will further intensify social division.

Another 71.8 percent of the respondents are worried that the large-scale manhunt for illegal immigrants by the U.S. government will lead to violent enforcement of the law and cause a serious humanitarian crisis.

In recent years, the issue of illegal immigration has continued to escalate in the United States. The U.S. government has been repeatedly exposed for scandals in this regard, and protests and riots have occurred frequently.

In the survey, 87 percent of the respondents criticize the U.S. government for systemic human rights violations when dealing with immigration issues. Eighty-six percent of the respondents agree that the immigration issue has become a chronic problem in domestic governance in the United States.

According to the survey, 73.8 percent of the respondents agree that against the backdrop of political polarization and the intensifying gap between the rich and the poor, the lives of ordinary people have become increasingly difficult.

The survey was released on CGTN's platforms in five languages: English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian. Within 24 hours, 6,054 social media users participated and expressed their opinions.
