With its origins in the pre-Qin era, Chinese wrestling is based on the key principle of "soft technique overcoming rigid power." In other words, it advocates using leverage to outmaneuver a larger opponent. Wrestlers dress in sleeved clothes, and attempt to grasp their opponent's clothing to help them execute throws involving leg trips and hip hooks. As part of the nation's intangible cultural heritage, this 3,000-year-old martial art is now an event at the National Games. As such, it demonstrates on a modern stage how strategic skill can triumph over raw strength.
