The candid and in-depth dialogue between China and the United States in London has made the international community cautiously optimistic about the prospects of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultations. A poll released by CGTN to global netizens shows that respondents generally believe the dialogue sends a positive signal regarding the implementation of the consensus reached by the two heads of state during the phone talks and eases the economic and trade frictions between the two sides. They call on the U.S. to meet China halfway on economic and trade issues and implement the consensus reached at the meeting well.

As the world's two largest economies and the largest developing and developed countries, China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation has long formed a pattern of complementary advantages, mutual benefit and win-win results. Seventy-one percent of the respondents agree that China's attitude and position on China-U.S. economic and trade issues are clear and consistent and that the essence of China-U.S. economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win. In the economic and trade field, cooperation benefits both China and the United States, while confrontation harms both. In the survey, respondents generally support China's position, with 87.1 percent of the respondents believing that there is no issue of who suffers losses and who gains advantages in economic and trade exchanges between China and the United States. Another 85.2 percent of the respondents believe that strengthening economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States is not only conducive to their respective development but also provides an important guarantee for the stability of the global industrial and supply chains. Meanwhile, 87.1 percent of the respondents agree that the healthy and stable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations not only benefits the people of both countries but also makes important contributions to the growth of the global economy.

Cable News Network (CNN) expressed cautious optimism about the consensus reached in the talks, saying, "No one wants to return to the standoff situation in April." In fact, there is no factual basis for the U.S. to stir up friction by claiming to suffer losses in trade. The U.S. trade deficit in goods with China decreased from 47.5 percent in 2018 to 24.6 percent in 2024; however, the scale of the U.S. trade deficit in goods with the rest of the world reached $1.2 trillion in 2024. The United States' trade surplus in services with China was $27.3 billion in 2024. In 2022, the sales of U.S.-funded enterprises in China reached $490.5 billion, significantly exceeding the $78.6 billion in sales of Chinese-funded enterprises in the U.S., with a difference of over $ 400 billion.

The survey found that 84.7 percent of the respondents believe that the U.S. holds a distinct advantage in the fields of service trade and cross-border operations. Meanwhile, 90.6 percent of the respondents say that the main reason for the trade deficit in goods in the United States lies in its own economic structure. Another 90.5 percent believe that this is both an inevitable result of the structural problems in the U.S. economy and a consequence of the comparative advantages and international division of labor between the two countries. A total of 88.5 percent of the respondents call on the U.S. to immediately and unconditionally withdraw the negative measures it has implemented against China. Meanwhile, 63.8 percent of the respondents believe that through equal consultation and practical cooperation, China and the United States can find mutually beneficial and win-win solutions.

This survey was released on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms. Within 24 hours, a total of 5,130 respondents participated in the voting and expressed their views.
