"Sand is a good thing too. Don't hate it—learn to love it." On the edges of the Taklamakan Desert in Yutian County in Xinjiang, Jia Cunpeng, Secretary of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau, has dedicated himself to this project for more than a decade. He leads efforts to level the sand, cultivate medicinal herbs, and explore a new path to combat desertification that balances ecology and economy. Amidst the wind and dust, he sees hope for the land and hidden treasures beneath the sands.
