The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival officially opened with a vibrant celebration of global filmmaking and creative exchange. This year's grand opening marked a dual milestone: the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema – a tribute to storytelling across generations.
Throughout the evening, the spirit of cultural connection was front and center. Jury President Giuseppe Tornatore called the festival "a celebration of peace and coexistence," emphasizing cinema's power to unite people from all walks of life. Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao described cinema as "the tree of life – eternally nurturing stories and sparking conversations."
