Daniil Medvedev in action during the ATP Halle Open 1st round against Daniel Altmaier in Halle, Germany, June 16, 2025. /ATP
At the ATP Halle Open in Germany, third seed Daniil Medvedev eased past home hope Daniel Altmaier in straight sets on Monday as he looked to find his form on grass ahead of Wimbledon after early losses at the Australian Open and French Open.
2022 Halle finalist Medvedev began his grass season by reaching the quarterfinals in s-Hertogenbosch last week and he broke away for a 4-3 lead in the opening set when he caught the line with a very delicate volley.
Medvedev, who is currently 11th in the ATP rankings, won the first set 6-3 with a brilliant running backhand.
Altmaier saved two match points on the Russian's serve, but the 2021 US Open champion eventually closed out the second 6-3 and inched closer to a first grass-court title since Mallorca in 2021. The 29-year-old will take on Quentin Halys in the second round.
