South China's Huaiji County fights worst flood in 100 years

Huaiji County in south China's Guangdong Province, is grappling with its worst flooding in over a century after Typhoon Wutip unleashed relentless downpours. The Sui River surged to 55.22 meters – 5.22 meters above the danger level – forcing the evacuation of more than 68,000 residents. Over 10,000 rescuers, including emergency personnel and volunteers, are racing against time to clear debris and rescue those stranded.

With schools, businesses, and transportation systems suspended, the county remains under a top-level emergency alert. Preliminary economic losses have exceeded 41 million yuan as floodwaters continue to threaten the region. Authorities have pledged to prioritize saving lives while continuing efforts to manage and contain the crisis.
