Beijing Guoan players celebrate after Qingdao West Coast goalkeeper Li Hao knocks in an own goal in a Chinese Super League (CSL) match in Beijing, June 17, 2025. /Xinhua
Beijing Guoan beat Qingdao West Coast 1-0 at home on Tuesday, extending their winning streak at Workers Stadium to six matches, staying undefeated in the Chinese Super League, and rising to first place on goal difference ahead of second-placed Shanghai Shenhua.
Qingdao went into kickoff looking to end a four-game winless run. Nelson da Luz had a chance to put the visitors ahead after streaking into the box in the 19th minute, but his shot was saved by Beijing goalkeeper Hou Sen.
Guoan opened the scoring following a corner kick in the 24th minute. Michael Ngadeu's header first hit the post and then bounced into the net off West Coast goalkeeper Li Hao's back.
The hosts missed an opportunity to double their advantage in first half stoppage time. Ngadeu's long shot was rejected by Li, and Sai Erjiniao's follow-up attempt also failed to get past Qingdao's goalkeeper.
Neither side found the net again, and Beijing held on for a tight 1-0 victory. Guoan lead the CSL standings on a goal difference of one over Shenhua. West Coast are mired in eighth place after winning just four of their 14 matches.
