International Olympic Committee (IOC) President-elect Kirsty Coventry conducted an online media roundtable from the organization's headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, four days before she officially takes office.
During a conversation with CGTN Sports Scene's Zhu Mandan, Coventry recalled watching the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics as a child, and also talked about how impressed she has been with China's work in exploiting its Olympic legacies.
Coventry was eight-years-old during the 1992 Games, and remembered watching the competition in her family's living room as a transformative experience. The Zimbabwe native went on to become a two-time Olympic swimming champion.
China's capital Beijing is the world's first "Dual Olympic City" after hosting both the Summer Games in 2008 and Winter Games in 2022. Coventry praised China's efforts to make use of its Olympic legacies, including venues, and believes the country can continue to influence the future of the Games.
