Ma Ying-jeou: We are touched by ceremony commemorating Chinese ancestor

01:03

Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party, attended a grand commemorative ceremony paying tribute to Fuxi, a legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation in Tianshui, northwest China's Gansu Province. The ceremony took place simultaneously across the Taiwan Straits, with a parallel event held in New Taipei City, marking the 12th consecutive cross-Straits joint ceremony to pay tribute to Fuxi.

Ma highly praised this event, saying that he and participating Taiwan students were really touched. Ma said that most people in Taiwan have a firm belief in Chinese culture and national identity. He also hopes that young people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits can have a deeper sense of pride as descendants of the Chinese nation and further work together to create a common, bright future.
