Beijing Guoan players celebrate after beating Dalian Yingbo on spot kicks and advancing to the Chinese FA Cup quarterfinals in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province, June 21, 2025. /VCG
Following Chengdu Rongcheng's 3-1 victory at Shandong Taishan on the first match day of the Chinese FA Cup's round of 16, four more teams prevailed on Saturday to secure their spots in the quarterfinals – Beijing Guoan, Guangdong GZ-Power, Yunnan Yukun, and Qingdao Hainiu.
Dalian Yingbo faced fierce competition at home against Beijing Guoan. Just before halftime, Dalian took the lead on a penalty kick by Cephas Malele, but Beijing's Dawhan managed to equalize deep into stoppage time, forcing extra time when neither side scored again. The match then went into a dramatic penalty shootout.
Dalian initially grabbed the advantage, but couldn't maintain their momentum, as Beijing staged a comeback to win 6-5 on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw in extra time, advancing to the next round.
In other action, Guangdong GZ-Power triumphed at home over Tianjin Jinmen Tiger 2-0 to advance.
Guangdong's Jiang Zhiqin missed an early chance, while teammate Xia Dalong threatened with a header in the first half.
After halftime, Ma Junliang broke the deadlock on a scramble. Yang Fan made a crucial goal-line clearance to deny an attempt by João Carlos, but the Brazilian later scored with a sharp-angled strike to help lower-tier Guangdong shock top-flight Chinese Super League club Tianjin.
Meanwhile, Yunnan Yukun fielded a strong lineup against League One side Shaanxi Union, and won 2-1 away. After Yunnan took a comfortable two-goal lead through Pedro Henrique and Oscar Maritu, Shaanxi's Liao Shaowen pulled one back, but Yunnan held on to advance.
Qingdao Hainiu rested several of their usual starters against League Two side Guangxi Hengchen, but still established a quick two-goal lead behind Jin Yonghao and Luo Senwen. Guangxi's Ji Xinlong found the net in the second half, but Qingdao maintained their edge to advance with a 2-1 home win.
The final three matches in the last 16 are set to take place on Sunday, including a highly-anticipated Shanghai derby between Port and Shenhua.
