WEF: China leads in energy transition among emerging economies

China is a gobal leader in clean energy: ranking 12th globally for the first time top among emerging markets for energy transition, according to an index released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). 

In 2024, China ranked first worldwide in terms of new energy funds invested, reaching about $818 billion and accounting for 40 percent of global total. China's renewable energy capacity and generation have surged as China advances a low-carbon energy structure. It also scored high in energy security through diversified supply, improved infrastructure and reserves. 

Espen Mehlum, head of Energy Transition Intelligence and Regional Acceleration at WEF, shared his insights on China's unique strengths in energy transition, its leadership in investments and the positive impacts it has had on the global landscape.
