Kirsty Coventry, who officially took office as the first female and first African president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday, spoke to China Media Group (CMG) in her first interview as the new Olympic boss on her immediate tasks and the future of the Olympics.

Coventry took over from Thomas Bach, who worked in the position for 12 years. The two worked together for three months after Coventry had been elected and she said the experience was "wonderful."

Coventry, 41, is the first IOC President born in the 1980s. She noted that it's very important for the organization to stay youthful and vibrant so the Olympic Games can remain attractive to the young generation.

CMG has been a major global broadcaster for many major international sports events, including the Olympic Games. Coventry looked forward to further strengthening cooperation with CMG.
