China's permanent representative to the United Nations Fu Cong has urged all parties to faithfully abide by the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran.
"No more deceptions this time," he said when responding to a question by CMG reporter Xu Dezhi ahead of a related Security Council meeting in New York, U.S., on Wednesday.
The ceasefire took effect earlier Tuesday after both Iran and Israel unleashed salvos of missiles in the final moments. No reports of air strikes as of now and the two countries had lifted civilian restrictions after 12 days of air strikes.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also urged both Israel and Iran to fully respect the ceasefire in a post on X on Tuesday
"The fighting must stop. The people of the two countries have already suffered too much," Guterres said, adding it was his "sincere hope" that the ceasefire can extend to other parts of the region.
