The 2025 FIBA 3x3 World Cup continued on Tuesday in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with the Chinese men's team claiming back-to-back victories.
They first defeated Puerto Rico 21-17 in their opening group-stage game, followed by a hard-fought 22-20 win over Canada later in the evening. The Chinese team features Guo Hanyu, Xiang Zhichao, Zhang Dianliang, and Wu Xingrui.
Against Canada, China displayed fluid offense, with Wu using a crafty fake to drive for an open layup, while Guo knocked down outside shots to give China an early lead. However, Canada stayed close by using two-on-one plays in small spaces. When the score was tied at 15, China drew Canada's seventh team foul, earning two free throws - both converted - to take a 17-15 lead.
Canada responded with deep shots to level the game at 18. In clutch time, Zhang sank a two-pointer to put China ahead 20-18, securing game point. After a Canadian timeout, they tied it again at 20 with a long-range shot. With just over 30 seconds left, China remained composed, and Xiang calmly hit the winner, sealing a 22-20 victory.
Earlier, China opened their campaign with a 21-17 win over Puerto Rico. They started strong and were sharp on offense, with Wu opening the scoring. Puerto Rico fought back with outside shooting, but Wu swatted a key block, and Zhang powered inside to keep China level.
The game remained tight until the final minutes, tied at 14 with just over two minutes left. China went on a decisive run, with Wu icing the game at the line to seal a 21-17 victory.
Team China is in Group C alongside France, Austria, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Under the tournament format, the top team from each group advances directly to the quarterfinals, while the teams in second and third place will enter cross-group playoffs for the remaining spots.
